Straight from the Australasian Etchells Championship, the Etchells one design fleet are preparing to head further north to compete in the 2017 Airlie Beach Race Week.  A late inclusion in the regatta, the competitive, 3 or 4 person fleet will add another dimension to the regatta, with racing for the fleet taking place on Pioneer Bay within easy sight of the Airlie Beach shoreline.

The racing format for the Etchells fleet will be Windward / Leeward courses within the bay, providing a spectacular view as the nature of the racing provides close, boat on boat racing.  Every tack, every gybe can make the difference between winning or losing, as all boats are identical.  Hence the skills of the crew make all the difference, a challenge that is taken up by some of Australia's top sailors.

With flat waters and a racing area that is so close to the shore and berthing, Airlie Beach Race Week is seen as a perfect place for racing.  As many of the boats come from Brisbane or the southern states, where winter racing is limited, this is an ideal opportunity to compete in a well established event.
